The Henderson
The Henderson, where architecture flows, and the lighting follows.
We’re proud to see our lighting supporting the vision of Zaha Hadid Architects and Speirs Major, helping bring their design intent to life.
This striking new landmark in the heart of Hong Kong, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, is a building defined by flowing forms, organic elegance, and a sense of seamless movement. Its bold silhouette now adds to the city’s skyline, but it is the finer details within the project that set a new benchmark for contemporary design. With a scheme of this ambition, every element had to meet the highest standards of precision and integration. The lighting, in particular, needed to be discreet, technically advanced, and respectful of the architectural vision.

That’s where our V20S OPTIC Luminaires came in. Hundreds of these ultra-compact fittings, each just 20 mm wide, were designed and installed as part of The Henderson’s custom handrails. Small in size yet powerful in performance, they embody the principle of “less, but better.” These tiny luminaires deliver highly controlled light while remaining virtually invisible at eye level, never interrupting the architectural rhythm. Their integration required millimetre-level accuracy, ensuring they sit flush within the bespoke handrail system and appear as a natural extension of the architecture rather than an addition.
The specification was clear: provide light only where it is needed and avoid unnecessary glare. To achieve this, lighting designers Speirs Major selected our OPTIC Graze lens with integrated micro-louvre. This combination ensures precise beam control, delivering glare-free illumination that softly washes the walkways, guiding visitors with subtle clarity. By shaping the light in this way, the luminaires enhance safety and comfort without overwhelming the senses, allowing the sculptural qualities of the building to take centre stage.

The Henderson demonstrates how successful lighting is about balance, control, and integration where luminaire plays a specific role, contributing to an overall scheme that feels effortless and elegant. The collaboration between Zaha Hadid Architects, Speirs Major, and our team ensured that the lighting could support the architectural intent, enriching the visitor experience while preserving the purity of the design.

From its sweeping curves to its finely crafted handrails, The Henderson is a reminder that true impact lies in the details. Just as the architecture relies on flowing gestures and careful proportions, the lighting relies on millimetre precision, advanced optics, and thoughtful placement. Our role was to provide precision, control, and discretion — illuminating the path without distraction, allowing the building itself to shine.
The Henderson is more than a new addition to Hong Kong’s skyline; it is a celebration of design excellence where architecture and lighting work in harmony. By embedding advanced, compact technology into the very fabric of the building, we were able to help create a space that is both functional and poetic. Projects like this highlight the importance of collaboration and innovation, proving that when every detail is carefully considered, the result is nothing short of extraordinary.
