The lighting community know only too well how light can impact physical and psychological well-being. It's a topic often overlooked, but one that holds significant importance, especially in spaces where people spend the majority of their day. For cc-tapis the Italian rug maker producing contemporary hand-made rugs, an environment that fosters not only productivity but also comfort and creativity was a top priority.

A Splash of Color and Precision Lighting

One of the most critical considerations was ensuring optimal lighting and color rendering in areas where individuals work directly with colours and textiles. For the creative team tasked with exploring the world of hues and fabrics, it was imperative to create an environment that would faithfully represent colors and provide exceptional light quality. To achieve this, meticulous attention was paid to the choice of lighting fixtures.

The tables designated for the creative team became the focus of specialised lighting. Lights from Qu provided an excellent CRI to ensure accurate colour representation and high-quality of light. This decision was crucial to allow the team to work with colours and textiles with precision and confidence, and without any distortion in their visual perception.

In the areas dedicated to office work, the emphasis shifted to providing lighting suitable for computer-based activities. The importance of task lighting in these spaces cannot be overstated. Properly illuminated workstations not only enhance productivity but also reduce eye strain, creating a comfortable and conducive environment for focused work.

Beyond the conventional workspaces, cc-tapis headquarters also incorporated unique concepts for areas designed for relaxation and social interaction. The large communal dining table in the kitchen area received focused lighting. This setup not only provides practical illumination for breaktimes but also adds a cozy and inviting ambiance, encouraging social interaction and shared moments among colleagues.

Architect Aldo Parisotto worked in collaboration with cc-tapis' Art Director Daniele Lora:

"As we are both passionate about contemporary art, the project was inspired by our shared passion for American minimalism, to which it pays homage.

Each monochrome environment involves the use of tracks, spotlights, or light poles, always in the same colour tone as the space in which they are installed, thanks to the special colour finish customisation."

Custom luminaires

A bespoke, custom length luminaire was created by Qu to run between two floors, emitting light in a 360 degree column. The CC Pole special fitting, runs from floor to ceiling illuminating the pink hued stairwell with complete uniformity. Hallways are adorned by another bespoke luminaire, Ed Cielo. This linear profile emits a thin line of light from its slender ⌀35mm body.

The lighting choices made at the cc-tapis headquarters are a testament to the understanding that lighting goes far beyond mere functionality. It has the power to shape our emotions, boost our productivity, and enhance our overall well-being. By tailoring lighting solutions to the specific needs and functions of each space, cc-tapis is now an environment that not only meets practical requirements but also contributes to the physical and psychological comfort of its occupants. So, the next time you step into a well-lit space, take a moment to appreciate the thoughtful design choices that may be influencing your well-being in ways you never imagined.
