darc night

The Lumino team celebrated the first darc awards in style during the darc night party on 24th September 2015.
As a supporting partner for the darc awards, Lumino collaborated with Electrolight lighting design to create a unique installation with two opposing canvases in two spaces, one representing nightime London seen from space and one looking up from London into the night sky.
Extract from Electrolight’s concept brief:
The darkness, the absence of light
Light is not just optical perception; it’s a psychological influence on the human experience. An environment that is ever changing. Day turns to night turns to day. Each day brings a new experience of light. Seasons pass and days go by. Every day we experience natural light and artificial light within the context of darkness.

Umbra
MDF, LEDs, polycarbonate, paper & fabric
Natural light / artificial light / darkness: It is dark. Remember the experience of the plane, we look at the earth, millions of lights so clear. The edges of our cities, populous and animated, a work of art created by human hands. In the absence of natural light we create our own tapestry of light as rich as the skies above.

Penumbra
Steel, MDF, LEDs, plastic & fabric
Natural light / artificial light / darkness: It is dark. Look at the sky from the earth, the dark night of the old silent made, shadows, ghosts and wishes entrusted to shooting stars. In the presence of darkness we look to the stars to see a work of art created by the universe’s oldest light.

About the darc awards
Celebrating the best in international architectural & decorative lighting design, the darc awards introduces a unique new peer-to-peer voting system for lighting designers. The first award event of this kind, the darc awards sprang from mondo*arc and darc magazines’ reputation for being the most read and respected lighting design publication in the world.
