Project FIRELIGHT

Contemporary firelight was the subject of a special design brief LUMINO set for students studying Product and Industrial Design.
Twelve third year students at the University of Hertfordshire were tasked to design a light that a brings people together by using the psychological effect of firelight in a contemporary way. Using LUMINO ColorCORE LED in candlelight-warm 2000K as their lightsource, each student developed their own unique interpretation of the brief. Jago Wickers and Iaroslav Vychemirski from the LUMINO design team were on hand at several stages of the two-month project to provide feedback and guidance. Jago said:
‘UH students have captured the ancient magic of firelight in a contemporary lighting products and presented designs that show a deep understanding of the brief including the photobiological effects of light on people. We have seen work that shows a clear path of independent and creative thought with carefully considered designs and beautifully crafted final models.
LUMINO were invited to set the brief for the project by University Lecturer Julian Lindley, who commented:
‘Lumino gave the students not only got a challenging design brief but also a real insight into the possibilities of design and the commercial world in which design operates. Jago and Iaroslav gave more time than we were expecting and their knowledge and enthusiasm made the whole collaboration fun and rewarding. Students and staff gained from the experience and we thank Lumino for this opportunity.
