Fortnum & Mason, London
The globally renowned British retailer, Fortnum & Mason, recently opened a new food hall and bar/restaurant within the stunning courtyard of The Royal Exchange in London. Found in the heart of the City, The Royal Exchange is a luxury destination, offering boutique shopping and upscale dining set within a heritage building.
The lighting design was an integral part of the shopping and dining experience for Fortnum & Mason’s guests, with leading lighting designers Speirs + Major appointed to create the scheme. The lighting design integrates seamlessly into the elegance and warmth exuded by the complete Fortnum & Mason experience.
To fulfil the demands of the retail space, Speirs + Major designed a scheme which mirrored Fortnum & Mason’s central Piccadilly store. High colour rendering of 95CRI ensures the colourful merchandise attracts attention, supported by a bespoke dimmable display system with moveable shelves to provide flexibility.
Several key elements of the ambitious lighting scheme were realised thanks to the use of LUMINO solutions. All of the lighting for the shelving was provided by LUMINO, who worked extensively with the shelving suppliers, Unibox, as well as the refrigeration contractor to supply the bespoke solution to illuminate all of the shelves. LUMINO’s VectorFLEX technology was used for this, as it offers the flexibility and versatility needed for the retail space. LUMINO’s V12S IP67 was used for the refrigeration units; a surface-mounted, compact linear lighting profile protected against dust and water ingress. V12S IP67 is not encapsulated and so achieves the same colour temperature and consistency as the non-IP rated shelving to the rest of the store.
The restaurant, bar and food hall has already become a must-visit destination for those living, working and visiting London.
