Centre Stage at Mayflower Theatre

LUMINO is proud to have supplied luminaires to The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton as part of it’s refurbishment.

It’s the largest regional theatre outside of London and recently celebrated 90 years since its opening. Looking forwards to the future of the theatre, the venue has seen a completely new colour scheme throughout. Gone is the previous green colour, and the theatre is now bathed in regal reds and golds, representing its heritage.

London lighting design practice, 18 Degrees, were appointed as the sole lighting designers for the refurbishment project. The lighting was an important part of the renovation, not only to bring the theatre forward in terms of technological advancements, but also to enhance the new interior look. Lighting also plays a key part in creating a comfortable environment for theatre goers both before and after the performance.

LUMINO was delighted to be approached to be part of the million-pound makeover at the historic theatre. Working closely with 18 Degrees, LUMINO provided lighting to the two 6.5m wide decorative millwork details either side of the stage, developing a custom RGBW solution with DMX control. The 100% LED scheme was specifically designed to offer discrete ambience, maximum functionality, and a longer-term, efficient lighting solution.

The refurbishment is truly stunning and the response from the media, theatre-goers and the industry has been incredible.
